Local News

The Men's Kitchen is coming to Ku-ring-gai.

And when we do we will need your help to get the ball rolling.

On Wednesday the 31st of August 2022 at the Turramurra Seniors Centre in Gilroy Lane Turramurra, we will be holding a demonstration of our usual cooking sessions and will present an overview of who we are and what we do to those interested in finding out more about us.

There are three reasons why you might like to attend this meeting:

  1. If you are an older man ....
    • and would like to increase your confidence in the kitchen and learn more about cooking delicious meals.
    • or have had to take over the role of preparing meals due to being recently widowed or your wife is no longer able to cook for you.
    • or you would like to help share the meal preparation duties but have no clue about cooking.
    • or you would like to join a group of men who enjoy each other’s company while preparing a meal?

  2. Or if you are a confident cook or chef and would like to give us about half a day per month to pass on your skills to older men, we would welcome you at the meeting.

  3. Or if you have experience organising an office or running a business and would like to assist in any capacity you would be most welcome at this meeting too.

If you would like to attend, please let us know so we can keep a seat for you. Please phone us on 0421 511 733 (please, no texts as they will not be received) or email us at info.kg@menskitchen.org.au.

See you there!

At the Men's Kitchen we prepare each dish in pairs, in that way everyone shares the preparation of each dish with a mate and can then taste the fruits of their labour when their dish is put on the table at lunch.  Richard and Roger are hard at it this time.

When Michael prepared this dish at home he was absolutely delighted with his achievement. Would you like such a smile on your face?

Our Program

Ku-ring-gai Kitchen

At each of our cooking sessions we conduct our program in the same manner:

  • We meet at 11am and have a chat about the menu of the day discussing any significant points about each new recipe.
  • Then we form into pairs, with each pair tasked to prepare a complete dish. They then choose which dish they would like to tackle. (Generally, a choice of a main, a dessert or any side dish of the day like flat bread or salad.)
  • Prepare the meal with the cooking instructor helping us to learn by pointing out tips and techniques as we construct our dish.
  • When the meal is ready, we sit together and enjoy the feast we have just made and have a general chat.
  • Plan the menu for the next time we meet. At this point, we seek volunteers to buy the ingredients for each menu item, and a volunteer to wash the aprons and tea towels.
  • Finally, we clear up, wash the dishes and depart by about 2pm.
