Dee Why RSL Club supports the Men' Kitchen on the Northern Beaches

Sandi Martin attends a function held by the Dee Why RSL club to celebrate its support of the Men's Kitchen and many other local not-for-profits on the Northern Beaches.

She reports of the event:

  • Warmly welcomed by both the Director Mark and President Graham Liddel. In fact Graham made mention that he is friends with Ian, one of our Seaforth men who warmly speaks of what we do at MKA.
  • Likewise friendly and interesting chats with Sheila, Bromwyn and the dynamic Sonia Adams-- all representatives for the Dee Why RSL Foundation. It is amazing to learn that the RSL has now acquired the whole block where the club now stands and a massive number of additional new units will be built for residents. Also a new restaurant will be emerging soon-- "Botanica"
  • The Chaplain -Debbie was a friendly lady and made mention of having MKA Head Chef Chris Chandler do a few catering jobs for her in Chatswood in the past!!
  • On circulating I also had amazing conversations with the reps from "Youth on the Streets" and also the reps from Grace City Care who organise food for the underprivileged — something that we found we both had lots in common with, with regard to satisfying a social need for our members. I also had a lovely chat with Judy Elias from Computer Pals for Seniors and learnt that some of our men attend these sessions --yet another group providing social stimulation in a learning environment.
  • Even more amazing that the Foundation supports over 100 organisations and have donated 1 million dollars to veterans and a total of $230,000 towards Domestic Violence support!! Just 2 of many recipients of funding.
  • Deputy Mayor of Northern Beaches Council, Candy Bingham was also there, as was Jacqui Scruby, member for Pittwater who addressed the attendees with a very commendable speech.

Food and drink flowed and it was an honour to be representing Men's Kitchen
